An introduction to artificial intelligence and data tools, how to read data, spot patterns, and use AI to solve real problems in your community.

This Pop-Up Lab kicks off SWIS Hub's Classroom on the Move series in Lagos, bringing a hands-on introduction to AI and data science directly to young women in STEM. Over two full days, participants will move beyond the buzzwords and get a real feel for what artificial intelligence actually is, how it works, and why it matters far beyond the tech industry. The workshop is built around the idea that data literacy is quickly becoming a foundational skill, much like reading or writing, and that every young woman deserves the chance to build that skill early and with confidence.

Format

2-day intensive workshop, Friday and Saturday
30 to 35 young women in STEM, aged 18 to 35
Co-designed with Nigerian university partners
Part of the SWIS Hub Classroom on the Move series

What participants will learn

The basics of artificial intelligence and how it works
How to read, clean, and interpret data sets
How to spot patterns and trends in data
Practical use of AI tools for problem-solving
How to apply these skills to real challenges in their own communities

Who it's for

Young women interested in STEM, tech, or data-driven careers
No prior coding or data science experience required
Open to students, early-career professionals, and community innovators

Outcomes

Foundational confidence in AI and data literacy
A completed mini project applying AI or data tools to a local problem
Connection to a peer network of young women in STEM across Nigeria
Pathway into SWIS Hub's ongoing STEM Circles mentorship groups
