This award, presented during National Volunteer Week by Volunteer Manitoba, recognizes individuals and organizations whose selfless service strengthens communities and creates lasting impact. Samuel was celebrated among 20 distinguished honorees at the 41st Annual Volunteer Awards gala held at Club Regent Event Centre in Winnipeg.

As featured in the Winnipeg Free Press, Samuel’s journey reflects the heart of what it means to lead with purpose. His story began not just in the lab as a PhD researcher and Vanier Scholar at the University of Manitoba, but in the community — mentoring, organizing, and building platforms that empower others, especially young people and women in STEM.

Through Shaping African Women in STEM (SWIS Africa), Samuel has amplified the voices of African women in science and technology, spotlighting their stories and inspiring the next generation to dream boldly and lead confidently. With a deep belief in the power of opportunity and community, he has also spearheaded initiatives like Food and Genes Initiative and Impact Leaders Connect, both of which are transforming lives across Africa and the diaspora.

💬 In his own words to the Free Press, Samuel shared:

“Volunteering has given me the opportunity to grow in confidence, to lead, to serve, and to build lasting relationships. I believe that every young person has something to give.”

Indeed, his leadership is a testament to how vision, faith, and service can move mountains. This award doesn’t just recognize his efforts — it validates the mission of SWIS Africa and our commitment to creating inclusive, empowering spaces for African women in science.

We dedicate this moment to every volunteer, mentor, and supporter who has walked alongside Samuel and the SWIS Africa journey. Your passion fuels the movement, and your impact is global.

Congratulations, Samuel! 🌟 Your light continues to shine and blaze a trail for countless others.
